I worked for the company for 2 & a half years in the embroidery department. I enjoyed doing what I did there every day - because I was always learning something new from the people that had been working there for over a decade.
I've never seen a locally owned business excel the way they have, -especially after seeing Erie engulfed by chain restaurants and large box corporations that are not only coming full force into the picture, but are ruining what makes Erie - Erie, PA.
They have stuff but the staff doesn't want to be there. The bum there collecting his paycheck couldn't even answer a simple question that I had asked to test his knowledge. The future welfare mom that failed miserably helping my wife find boots on sale was a little short on brains. Doesn't know a brand of boots on sale that is displayed throughout the store? I guess inbreds flock to inbreds otherwise this place would not be open.
For a company that's been opened for 66 years (EST. 1951), it shouldn't be a question who the expert is on sporting goods, let alone the company who is supporting the local schools in Erie, PA.
I have nothing but good things to say about the Erie Sport Store.
Would have given them a zero if possible. Visited this store 4 times and finally was put in contact with their purchasing manager. The staff was clueless as to how to purchase a canoe. After experiencing the run around I got its clear why. Spoke with manager over the phone concerning ordering a canoe. He agreed to contact me with a price. That was 4 months plus ago. Really?? I offered to pay in advance before order was put in. I tried numerous times to follow up to secure a price and to order. Gave up after 6 times. This is why people shop on the Internet rather than keep the business local.. It really shows an arrogance on the part of this store to assume they are so irreplaceable their customers will chase them around to purchase something. I can go to other stores who respect me with a follow up phone call. Last time I deal with this place.
Please, support local business. Keep Erie great for what it truly is.
It's the people there that keep everyone coming back.
This is me, checking up my hometown, hoping people don't start taking for granted a store that has rightfully been established as a cornerstone in Erie's history.
My grandfather and his brother opened this store long before I was born. I've seen it go through shifts and phases, good times and bad. Employing people who needed a chance at life, not always for the betterment of the business. I'm happy to report my dad Jack Weber, who devoted his whole life to the team department, is finally on the floor!!!! Serving customers and making sure their needs are met! Wednesday-Sunday, if you need a pro he's the guy! I was sad to see poor reviews. Sometimes when you own a business you need help, sometimes your help dissapoints you and you have to let them go. I hope everyone has pleasant experience from this day forward
The one thing that I don't see today in a shopping experience at a chain store is simply the people.
I know for a fact that if the people here leaving bad reviews actually brought their issues/problems to the store - they would be resolved without hassle.
The Erie Sport store has people that are actually willing to give you the time of day, people that are willing to help you with your questions and that are willing to drop what they're doing to help you with your concerns.
When you think about what makes Erie special like I do, after living there for 27 years, you realize that it's the people.
It's a sad time when I see people leaving harsh reviews here because of some bad apples, or because the items they purchased didn't live up to their expectations.
When you're just trying to get through the day at your 9-5 as an employee at a chain sporting good store, I can understand the feeling of not wanting to give anything back.
People that have expertise in their departments because they've been employed there almost their whole lives.
I hope that anyone looking to purchase any sporting goods in Erie looks no further than what's in their backyard - the Erie Sport Store.
This is a locally owned business. This isn't Amazon.
Went to Erie Sports Store to purchase softball equipment for my daughter who has never played before. We were two of 6 people in the entire store. Our salesman never approached us, I had to seek him out. He never took us to where we needed to go, only pointed in a direction. I had a number of questions and couldn't find him. I finally put everything back, (pants, bat, batting helmet, equipment bag) and walked out. I found him in the front of the store playing hockey with a ball and two sticks with another employee. Dick's got my money!
